| I won't lie to you. Most people will hate this game because of it's cutesy graphics. In fact, most of you have already played and condemned it.
Nonetheless, I think it deserves a topic, because it's my and Havoc's all-time favorite MMO. Here's some basic info.
- It is a sidescroller - Every character and enemy is chibi. - The backgrounds are really well made. - It is a platform game. You'll be doing a lot of jumping. - The time-frame is confusing. There's all sorts of crazy technology and machines, yet you use weapons from the middle ages. - It takes a LONG time to reach the max level, even for Cygnus Knights. - Lag isn't usually a problem. - It is f2p. - There is a cash shop that allows for huge character customization, but the shop gives you zero advantages over nonpaying members. Yay. - The game is simply huge. - The English gets a B+. Some of the dialogue feels a little stale due to the translators. But it's not bad. - There is no pvp.
Let's talk about the classes now.
When you make your character, you'll choose one of three character types. Until recently, characters could only choose to be an adventurer.
ADVENTURERS - The oldest branch. You start as a beginner, and eventually advance to either a warrior, bowman, mage, thief, or pirate. The max level is 200. Most people choose a class from this branch.
KNIGHTS OF CYGNUS - This branch is only half a year old. There is a type of knight for each of the classes in the adventurer branch. They have all of the skills that their adventurer counterparts have, and a few unique ones to make them doubly effective. However, the max level is 120. This means that the knights are superior early in the game, but have the least potential in the end. They are perfect for casual players. Cygnus Knight Warrior - Dawn Warrior Cygnus Knight Mage - Blaze Wizard Cygnus Knight Archer - Wind Archer Cygnus Knight Thief - Night Walker Cygnus Knight Pirate - Thunder Breaker
LEGENDARIES - This branch is brand new. In fact, it’s so new that there is only a legendary warrior class (Aran) at the moment. Their storyline, skills, and progression differs from the other two branches by a considerable amount. The max level is 200. Legendaries operate somewhat differently and often gain EXP at a slower rate, which results in a more challenging experience. However, they possess far more potential than the other two branches. They are perfect for hardcore players that want to be the best. Legendary Warrior - Aran Legendary Mage - Evan (Currently only exists in the Korean version of Maplestory) Legendary Archer - Ian (Doesn’t exist yet) Legendary Thief - ? (Doesn’t exist yet) Legendary Pirate - ? (Doesn’t exist yet)
In case you didn't notice, each of the three character types allows you to become a type of warrior, mage, archer, thief, or pirate. Let's discuss those now. The following descriptions are only truly accurate about those in the adventurer category. Keep in mind that Cygnus knights have bonus skills. for instance, CK Warriors have a skill that allows them to move rapidly, and summon a spirit to help them. Legendaries work different altogether.
BEGINNER - Everyone starts here. They have horrible skills, none of which are worth worrying about. At level 8, you can advance to a mage. At level 10, you can advance to any of the other classes. The only perk of being a beginner, is that they have to pay less for taxis. There are some people who remain a beginner forever, but I wouldn't recommend it...
ARCHERS - Considered the worst class in the game. Of course they really aren’t, but most people lack the patience required to unlock their potential. Relatively early, you’ll decide to be one of two possible archer types. - Bowmen - Uses bows, which shoot fast, but deal low damage. - Crossbowmen - Uses crossbows, which shoot slowly, but deal high damage. The problem with archers is that they move as slowly as warriors, unlike mages and thieves, who can zip around the room at breakneck speeds. Additionally, archers have way less HP than warriors, which is still a lot more than thieves, and way more than mages. Archers are reviled for being ineffective at low levels, compared to the other classes. However, a high level archer has the potential to deal the most damage in the entire game per hit.
WARRIORS - These guys have huge HP and huge damage, which is offset by their low speed, low MP, and lack of range. Also, warriors have the lowest accuracy in the game, meaning that they cannot easily damage a monster with a higher level than themselves without the aid of sniper pills/potions, and gear that raises accuracy. A high level warrior can often solo some of the hardest monsters in the game. However, it is tough to be a low level warrior, since every other class can easily steal your kills. This can be remedied by venturing off to one of the less popular - but equally effective - training places.
MAGES - Considered the best class in the game by the elite. They have horrible HP, and can be 1-2-hit-killed by many of the bosses you’ll encounter, and 3-5-hit-killed by any enemies at your level. However, they have huge MP, and possess the ability to teleport, which helps them to move quickly and avoid danger. They have spells which allow them to deal damage to several enemies at once (Every enemy onscreen at later levels), and a certain branch of mage can heal themselves and their allies. Mages are the most expensive characters to upkeep, requiring a ton of health and magic potions. There are three types of mages. - Fire/Poison (Considered less effective) - Ice/Lighting (Considered more effective) - Clerics (They heal! Every party wants one)
THIEVES - Simply put, thieves are ninjas. They have less HP than warriors and archers, but more than mages. They deal the least damage usually, but can hit very very fast. They have skills that allow them temporary invincibility by moving through the shadows, although they cannot attack in this form. This helps them to avoid damage. They can also run and jump way faster and higher than the other classes, which makes fighting and escaping much easier. There are two types of thieves. -Assassins - Uses shuriken to attack from a distance. They are weaker but way faster than archers. -Bandits - Uses daggers to attack up close. They are weaker but way faster than warriors.
PIRATES - A new class. There are two types : Gunslingers and Brawlers. -Gunslingers - Uses flintlock pistols to attack from a distance. It is basically an archer/assassin hybrid. It has a fair amount of HP, and attacks slower than an, assassin, but deals more damage. Has more mobility than an archer, but less than an assassin. - Brawlers - Uses knuckle weapons to attack up close. It is basically a warrior/bandit hybrid. It has a fair amount of HP, and attacks slower than a bandit, but deals more damage. Has more mobility than a warrior, but less than a bandit.
Pirates also have some magical attacks as well. They’re sort of a jack-of-all-trades.
I'm a level 35 Aran on the Scania server at the moment (Made him three days ago)
That's all for right now. I need to sleep.

| I was Pest02 the bowman. What a surprise.
I always just shot everything to pieces in relative safety while the warrior masses tried to kill something. I never died. It was pretty fun.

| La Tale is a Maplestory rip off. It's pretty good. There isn't as much fail there.*
*Note that I said 'as much'. The game still fails pretty hard. |

| White pill = 300 HP gain
*Prefers Unagi which heals 1000, though his combo drain skill usually serves to keep his HP up*

| I now have a Zakum helmet; the extraordinarily expensive and powerful special level 50 helm that beats every other helm in the game. Every character seeks one. This is the equivalent of obtaining a GC Dusk Reactive that also makes you deal more damage.
Twas no easy task, either. It's taken me three years and five characters to loot the chaos scroll I sold to get the helm.
I'm pretty pleased with myself. Too bad I can't wear it yet, since I'm level 47. >.>
