"Stay Gold" Let's reflect on the glorious timeline of Toonami
1. Moltar begins his own viewing block using Space Ghost's tv satelite introducing a majority of the US to anime with shows like; DBZ, Gundam Wing, Ronin Warriors, Robotech.
2. Toonami is a booming success and an origional face is put into the scene and "Tom" is born.
3. Tom ups the anty by showing the blood and gore on shows like DBZ which had before been censored out. A cartoon network first in the blood department.
4. The media begins to use this timespot to introduce bands and games. The most notable is "Gorillaz." Also it gets put on to every day of the week.
5. Tom get attacked by an alien lifeform and must fight for his life but is killed.
6. Tom is revived by his co-pilot computer and get a complete upgrade in badassness.
7. Toonami "Latenight" is born for the running hours 11pm-2am. Tom goes all out in the anime department and blood is completely uncensored and words like Damn, Hell, Crap, Dick, and Ass are first heard on Cartoon Network.
8. The lateight runs draw in a more mature audiance but still likes the violences roots back to toonami. Parents are upset and Demand it be shut down.
9. A few months later Adult Swim is born to untie Toonami to the main source of violence. holding strong that this is "clearly made for adults only and parents showed watch their own children"
10. Tom's ship is attacked again and he opens his own can of whoopass with the viewer's help. Toonami is back in full force and Adult Swim canot be stopped.
11. With Adult Swim in the picture parents see no reason for Toonami to show similar programing. Thus they demand a more "kid friendly viewing block" and Miguzi is born and Toonami is shoved to the weekends.
12. With the success of Miguzi with parents the corporate decides to remove Toonami from sunday mornings (church hours) for the viewers who werent home saturday night to see it.
13. Violence is all but removed besides reruns of DBZ and Naruto. Tom gets a gay horrible new look and gets "helper bots"
14. Toonami after ELEVEN glorious years finally gets the boot due to low ratings.
Toonami changed cartoons in america COMPLETELY!! It was a 2 hour block of pure awesomeness kids loked foreward too everyday after school Without Toonami: - Anime would never be the huge success it is today in america - Adult Swim would never have been created - Blood and violence would never have been placed on Cartoon Network - OUR childhood tv would have SUCKED!!
And how is Adult Swim, Miguzi, and Cartoon Network faring today? Miguzi is no more cause they just plain sucked ass and no one liked the shows but parents.
Adult Swim is filled with Garbage such on weeknights with shows from other networks like family guy and worst "live action" shows such as Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Saul of the Molemen, and The Mighty Boosh. The only good night left on Adult swim is Saturday which is anime night (notice a similar pattern with Adult Swim and Toonami yet?)
Cartoon Network shows the same damn 5 shows 80% of the day each weekday and 90% of the time on weekends.
---------------------------------
Cartoon Network has gone to hell. I swear if i had a Billion Dollars i'd buy out Adult Swim and bring Toonami back to former greatness!!

I know how you feel, Kyo.
Gawd, where can I even start? You've already said so much that I wanted to say myself. The anime industry owes a huge debt of gratitude to Toonami, and Cartoon Network does as well, but we've seen how they decided to thank them.
While Toonami was by no means the first place I encountered Anime (That honor goes to Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro), it was and still is one of my fondest childhood memories. Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Tenchi Muyo, DBZ, Gundam Wing, Zoids, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Sailor Moon, Teen Titans and so many more.
Sadly I didn't get to be there for Toonami's end, and I hadn't been there in a long time. My family and I moved around too much, and we just couldn't keep up with the cable prices, so the later half of the 2000`s I didn't have cable (still don't), but I'm glad to say that I was there for the golden years of Toonami, when everything was epic.
I knew things weren't right when they began showing horrible pg-13 flicks in lieu of the shows that you know, made Toonami what it was. It was all down hill from that. Though I held out hope for Adult Swim. I especially wanted to see more of the show Hogarth The Bararian, but they only had the pilot, which lost out to shows like Metalocalypse and for some sorry reason, Tom goes to the mayor.
Cartoon Network isn't worth a damn anymore, and it'll never get better. Not with shows trying to rip off spongebob squarepants and survivor. fucking survivor. It's sickening.
R.I.P Toonami and Tom, you got out while the gett'n was good.

indeed. Adult Swim kicked so much ass for the first 4 years. I remember getting busted every other night trying to watch the late night anime.
I honestly think those Tim & Eric fags own 51% of Adult Swim or something cause everyone i've talked to hates that show. Hell i even change the channel when a commercial of them comes on.
god toonami was great i was watching that RELIGOUSLY since i was 8. But the last 3 years i didnt get to watch much with it being on weekends and me going out partying in highschool and after.

tim and eric is... absolutly the worst show ever created. No one wants to watch that crap, it's nothing but a gay couple in drag with their hillbilly 80 year old friends who cant find work without wearing lipstick. I swear to god everyone on that show must be from the same southern Drag Queen contest who were like "we should dress up on TV next and ruin peoples night while we sex eachother secretly in the form of humor!" blah, made myself throw up a little.
You want good nonsense thats real go watch Jackass or Nitro Circus so i can have Adult Swim back.

you have VERY strange taste in TV trig.

I don't have any reason to even watch CTN after they took away Toonami, and after Ed, Edd, and Eddy ended. All of the shows they have now aren't aimed toward cartoon-seeking teens, young adults, or even big kids. They used to have jokes and references to cater to all audiences; to make watching shows an enjoyable experience even if you were out of the age group intended for it. Since the only programming specifically aimed at my age group was removed, and since any shows like E,E,&E, which have humor for everyone, are now gone, the entire network has lost it's appeal for me. Now, they just air these retarded, plain, unfunny pieces of shit that deserve to die. Also, why would they do that to Toonami? Are they brain damaged? They took an extremely popular block that kept many viewers who had grown out of traditional cartoons watching their damn network, then they push it out of its time slot, then add more retarded shit, then push it back again, slowly causing its demise. They could have prevented this fucking disaster, but no, they decided to take a shit over some of the coolest cartoons that I grew up with, therefore removing them off of the only channel I could find them on (back when I still watched those shows. Although I don't watch them anymore, I have a huge amount of pent up anger.) and finally they blasted Toonami with piss instead of trying to work with it to bring it back to its once glorious state. WHY, CTN? CTN can suck my dog's dick! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV0GI8FkJBc <---- That is for you, Cartoon Network.
That is all. (I voted for "protest")
Oh yeah, if you were wondering, this is completely discounting Adult Swim. AS only has one or two good shows going for them; all of the rest can either be ignored entirely due to sucktitude, or viewed on a different channel (or on a computer).

Which is why I've stopped watching tv almost completely. To begin with, there were never many shows that fit my tastes. Eventually, those few shows got discontinued, except South Park, which has lost its edge.
IMO, Tim and Eric is so horrible that its actually enjoyable, if that makes any sense. I like trying to comprehend the absurdity of it all.

Trigger might be on to something *shudders* There are somethings that are just so horrid that they're worth watching, at the very least so that you can say "Yea, I saw that shit. It was awful!" Prime example: Twilight.
Sparkling faggots aside (whether I'm talking about Tim and Eric or Edward Cullen is for you to decide), I voted not to protest and instead to mourn for silently over Toonami. Why? Because a zombie is a zombie is a zombie, and nothing that returns from the dead is ever as fresh as it was when it was alive. I like to kill zombies, I like Toonami, I would not like to kill a Toonami Zombie, and that's exactly what we'd have to do if Toonami was ever brought back. D:
It would never be good enough for us, which is what the whole protesting thing would be about, bringing back something we enjoyed. What we liked then may not be liked now and to keep up with the times, tons of changes would have to be made, changes that would still make older fans irate. Sure, they'd sucker in the old fan base for a few viewings at first, but unless they can get a new audience or find a means of keeping the old base, Toonami would just be canceled again.
Better to let what once was be.

Had the same problem as ya Birk, I left cable, around the same time, and did not get cable till a few years ago, but after 911, something screwed up cable and we got it free for a year, and when I found what channel Cartoon network was on I came upon a different Tom, and I found out about AS, first show I saw on it was sailor moon.

lol i was fortunate enough to watch it from week 1. I believe the 4 shows were Thundercats, Sailor Moon, Voltron, DBZ.
When Tom took over his first week i think the shows were: Gundam Wing, DBZ, Tenchi Muyo, Beast Wars.

I can name a few places they aired Beast Wars.
The original run was aired on Fox 43 during Weekdays at 6:30. It wasn't part of their official block of shows, but it was still a favorite. It was first aired in 96, but it went underground for a while before re-surfacing full time.
It then went on to the Sci-Fi channel where it was butchered to hell to fit into 15 minute story blocks, which were later re-shown on G4 TV, but I can't say I ever remember seeing it on Toonami, unless of course this was during a time I didn't have cable, then I couldn't tell you otherwise.

I remember watching Beast Wars back in... Like, 1990-something? It came on right after school, so I know I didn't see it on Toonami.
What channel played Zaboombafoo and Digimon? Fox? I'm pretty sure the same one played Beast Wars.

Hey thanks for giving me the props on the video kyo.
Yeah this was a huge step into alot of things that many cartoon networks did not have. For example they started putting movies out into the air time tv like. dbz and gundam. They also tested out alot of animes like a hit from ronin warriors to a miss like gundam sd ( it was a kid version of gundam and they were all minis), but anyway for those who were apart of the magic could not forget the countless hours they spent rushing in front of the tv to see the show that could make their day feel complete.
We owe toonami alot.
Salute to the rise and everlasting glory of toonami.
