My first experience with DF 3D Empty
PostSubject: My first experience with DF 3D   My first experience with DF 3D EmptyThu Dec 23, 2010 11:04 pm

Well my dear friends, it seems at last I've tasted the fruits of DF 3D.

This evening I was babysitting for one of my neighbors and was able to hop on to DF 3D for the very first
time. And I immediately lost 6k for my fucking trouble. I was in the market buying Red Wines so that I
could take Umbrella Researcher out, and I bought 6k worth of Red Wine. It wasn't until I went to get
right shitfaced that I noticed that I'd been duped! I spent 6k and didn't get a SINGLE fucking bottle of
wine! I thought for sure maybe I had been sniped but when I looked to my monetary counter I only had
about 3k left of the original 9k that I had taken out! Needless to say things were starting out great....

So I take what little money I had left and bought MORE wine, and this time I got my fucking moneys
worth, downed both bottles and then ran out into inner city 3D. The screen fades in to a desolate city
street. Static flickers across the screen as a glowing red button implores me to "Start". i'm greeted
to the sounds of gunfire and the groans of the undead, and as I click the start button the screen
becomes clear and my journey begins.

First of all, I must say that the graphical enhancement is astonishing. Looking back at 2D and then
comparing it to 3D, it's hard to believe the two are the same game. The lighting effects of the fire
are very nice, but the "lightning flashes" are neither realistic or even very well done. I hope that
admin will correct this later.

The models are very nice, even if a bit basic in appearance. The vehicles are rather blocky, especially
those that are turned on their sides, giving the player a profile look at them. As far as the game has
come, and as nice as things look compared to before, I think Admin fell short of the game he showed
off to us when he proposed updating to 3D. Will we get something of the same quality in the end? I
dunno, but to be honest, I wouldn't complain if we didn't.

Anyway, back to my journey. I move out a few screens and I encounter my first infected! A slouched,
lumbering fat.. red?! What the fucking hell are red zombies doing literally two or three screens from the
outpost!? I whip out my Desert Eagle and rip into him, downing him in one shot!... What the fuck? If this
is a red zombie, why is he so damn weak? Why the hell did admin make the weak zombies red? Did he
do away with the color-coded enemies? if so, why now?... Thoroughly confused I moved onward. When
I arrive at the next screen, I'm greeted by other fellow survivors as they fight a horde of zombies, all
the while, I'm still confused about what type of infected these are. However, to my astonishment, as I
walk by the attack, expecting to be turned on, I was ignored completely by the horde as they attacked
the poor noobs. I'm glad to see that Admin actually implemented this lil feature.

Let me talk about the new infected for a moment. It's really refreshing to see the zombies in such detail
now. Seeing them slouched as they lumber along, seeing more of their bodies instead of just a lazy set
of arms, a head and maybe a leg or two. Here, you see their entire anatomy! Hell, if you use a chainsaw
on them, you can even see body parts flying off! Though I was a bit concerned seeing a headless zombie
still trying to attack me. It kind of reminds me of the deadites from the Evil Dead. And also, I was kind
of surprised to see some minor ragdoll physics in play when using my Deagle! I lol'd the first time I nailed
a critical hit, sending the poor zed flying several feet. Sadly I didn't play long enough to encounter any
green zombies or any of the new bosses. =\

What I have yet to talk about yet is the looting. I had encountered several lootable objects in my play
time, starting after the first screen from the outpost, which isn't unusual, really. The first time I saw
the yellow-tinted items with the question marks over them, I thought it was kind of queer, but nothing
i hadn't already expected from reading the updates. I looted about, oh, 10 or 12 objects, on average of about 1 1/2 objects per screen, give or take (I didn't fully explore, given I had a short amount of time)
and I found that of all the objects I looted, about 8 of them had items or money. I don't think ive ever
found so many items consistently before. So im not entirely sure why so many people are up in arms
over the change in the looting system.

In conclusion, I like what I've seen of 3D thus far, however, further research is needed. I look forward
to playing more. :3

Now if Admin would just add business suits to the game, I'd be able to carry out all those House of the Dead 2 fantasies that've played out in my head ever since I first heard about DF.

Honestly, I'd play it all the time if I actually had someone to play it with. =\

Gooooooood good. I shan't be back in action until January 4th or 5th anyway. Regardless, I'll need time to grind up a new character, if you shan't be starting over with me. )=<

Yeah, 3D is a whole new world compared to 2D. Where before you could live with no speed, now you need it or a GAU-like weapon to survive too far in. No more greens, reds are basically tougher nub zeds (greys), and tendrils are the #1 killer of players. Only boss is the Titian, which is basically an overpowered and over sized Bone (the tall, bulky zeds that give a ton of xp when killed) and it's not lootable yet, but while easy will kill you if you slip up due to it's ability to tank through bullets and fellow zeds to bitch-slap you (yes, it's attack is literally a bitch-slap!). Just a heads-up into the new world of 3D DF.
