So some time last year I was reading a list of up-coming movies for 2011 and on that list happened to be a un-titled Mortal Kombat movies. It seems that WB's was approached with the film but they turned it down. Instead they decided to do a mini-series that they plan to air on the internet, and this is the trailer for it.
I dunno about this you guys. As awesome as the video above is, I can't say I love it. There are so many continuity errors that it isn't even funny. I don't particularly like how they're trying to base everything in "reality" either... Baraka's species are mutants from outworld, not some crazed doctor who decided to graft blades into his arms... The series is MEANT to lean heavily on the supernatural, and here they try to rip it away.
That being said, the fight featured in the trailer was incredibly well done, very fast paced, brutal and exciting, but I just... ugh I can't shake this bad taste that's been left in my mouth. I'm not an MK puritan by any sense of the word, and I can't even say I know the full story behind the MK universe, but this thing feels like something else with the only ties to the MK universe being names. Kind of like the RE movies....
I have to say, this looks like a good movie, if it lacks the true parts of Mortal Kombat. Only thing that I find a problem with it is that Scorpion is a good guy now, but if I remember right wasn't he a villian as well? And didn't Baraka's blades stay out the whole time he fought and didn't go like Wolverine from his wrists? Not a huge MK fan, but I remeber enough that much at least.
You know what just ruined the 'moment' for me? That fucktard talking after the trailer. Your comments are for the comment section. not the fucking video.

Baraka's blades were natural for his species in the game series. Their name escapes me atm, but they were all a race of mutants that came from outworld. His blades DID remain out in the original games, but when they added a weapon system he could retract and unleash them at will. Tarkatan, thats it, thats what they were called.
As for Scorpion, he's actually a neutral character: Siding with those whom can help him achieve his own agenda. He's something of an anti-hero, being that his only motive is revenge upon Sub-Zero and the Lin Quei order.

That buck would be Philip De'Franco. He's a bit of a douchebag. I used to follow his other net series but I sort of got tired of going to youtube on a daily basis.
I dunno, I think this trailer may be swaying me... But only a little.. I want another MK movie, one that has been given its props. With the original MK movie, you could tell that, unlike the RE series, Paul Anderson genuinely TRIED to make a faithful game-to-movie interpretation. In my opinion it was an awesome movie and STILL remember how excited I was when I first watched it. Hell, from what I can remember of the live-action TV series, it was good, too. Course, everything seems to suffer from the sequel curse at one time or another, MK was no different.
This trailer is starting to bring back that nostalgic feeling, I want this mini series to be successful, I want this movie to happen.

I remember the first MK movie, and that was actually extermely entertaining, especialy when Goro snapped the one huge guy in half over his head. That's where I got the idea Scorpion was a villian since he and Sub-zero (my favorite fighter, btw!) got along well in there and he nearly killed Cage (the guy sucks and wins by sheer luck half the time in the movie). Best line in the whole movie was Scorpion yelling "GET OVER HERE!" as he smashed a whole stack of platforms Cage had climbed on to get him on his level.
Also, checked wikipedia, and that thing has quite literally everything in exsistence there. Even had a list of MK characters and thier back-stories, even their special moves.
Ugh.. this ISN'T going to help me defend myself against nerdism....
Scorpion & Sub-Zero only teamed up in the first film because Shang Tsung had them under his control, and even explained in the beginning that they were both mortal enemies before he stepped in.
The line you're quoting is actually "GET DOWN HERE!", cause you know, Johnny was up there on the platforms. Interesting facts: The guy whom played Scorpion in the movie was the very same guy who was scanned for him in the original MK game. Tobias Boon (Noob Saibot) personally lent his voice to Scorpion in both the films and the games.
