| Those who like the Song of Ice and Fire series and will be pleased to know that the show's first episode aired on HBO last sunday.
I don't have HBO, so someone who does will have to tell me how it was.

| yeah i grabbed a torrent of it, i thought it was pretty good too.
Sir Sean of Bean decapitating someone in the first episode is a good sign IMO.
speaking of ye olde englande/mythical kingdoms and such, anyone caught any of Camelot? i spotted that on eztv awhile ago, mainly as someone compared it to Spartacus, tho probably more for the amount of bared skin therein than terrible violence thus far...

| I am happy.
I read the first book nearly four years ago (so my memory is a little fuzzy), but I've yet to encounter any significant incongruencies. I hope they keep it up. Honestly though, I've no idea how they can hope to encompass every relevant bit of information in ten episodes without skipping around heavily, or editing shit for convenience. I mean, each book is a thousand pages, told from seven or eight different points of view.
Also, I am very pleased with most of the casting, ESPECIALLY Tyrion. I am so pleased they did the little guy justice.
However, I do not approve of Eddard being cast as the same guy who played Boromir. I always imagined him as more of an Aragorn. But with a considerable beard.

| I might watch it. I have a bit of a crush on Sean Bean since he was in Silent Hill. |

| Ya, Tyrion is already my favorite character in the show. Sansa's actress does a great job of pulling off the "snobby bitch" that is Sansa. Also, I really like the armor and the weapons. | |

| Alright, I am now re-reading the first book with the show, and will post angrily as new episodes come out. All in all, Episode one's changes are minimal. However, it puzzles me why they would change the things they did indeed change. PREFACE - Spoiler:
Alright, remember those three guys walking around in the forest, fighting snow zombies (Called "Others")? That's where the biggest differences were. First, the characters.
Waymar Royce - The snobbish young lord Gared - The older fellow Will - The younger one with the funny face
IN THE SHOW - Spoiler:
Waymar, Gared, and Will are on a short range. Will finds dead people. Will tells the rest. Waymar is a dick to him. Gared suggests they turn back. Waymar is a dick to him as well. So they go to check out the bodies, but they are gone. Suddenly, the Others show up, and one kills Waymar instantly. Will and Gared run away, but Gared has his head cut off. Will makes it out alive, but is executed for desertion.
IN THE BOOK - Spoiler:
Waymar, Gared, and Will are on a long 9-day range. Will finds dead people. Will tells the rest. Waymar is a dick to him. Gared suggests they turn back. Waymar is a dick to him as well. So they go to check out the bodies, but Waymar tells Gared to stay with the horses a good distance back. Waymar and Will approaces the place where Will found the bodies, but they are gone. Waymar orders Will to climb a tree and survey the area. While Will is up there, several Others come out of the forest. One engages Waymar in an epic sword fight as the other Others watch. However, Waymar's sword freezes and breaks after awhile. When this happens, all the Others swarm in and stab him to pieces as Will watches.
Soon after, the Others leave, and Will climbs down. He picks up Waymar's shattered sword as proof of his death, but when he turns to find Gared, he discovers that Waymar has come back as an Other. The chapter ends with Waymar choking Will to death. Chapter two takes place from Bran's (the kid that likes to climb) perspective, as he attends the execution of Gared, who has been charged with desertion, having somehow survived the huge trip back. He too is executed, but his last words are not shown.
DIFFERENCES - Spoiler:
- In the show Waymar and Gared die in the forest. Will makes it back, but is executed for desertion. In the book, Waymar and Will die in the forest. Gared makes it back, but is executed for desertion.
- The actual conditions and what happened during the ranging differs somewhat.
- The sentencing Eddard gives before executing Will/Gared differs.
- The wolf puppies are found in different but similar manners.
- And obviously, the book was 102349712 times more descriptive.
MY OPINION - Spoiler:
I have no idea why they had to change which ranger survived and which one was executed. Seems like a pointless switch. I also would have preferred that they got the words Eddard says before performing an execution right. Other than that, everything was pretty much spot on.
I haven't finished Daenery's chapter yet, so I don't know how they differ. I should have waited before posting this, but I could not contain myself.
