| There's a 1 in a million chance it will turn into a pandemic.
The swine flu is a very mutatable virus with a high death rate. Historically around 2.5%
It became famous in the early 1900's when it was called the Spanish Flu. It killed 40 Million people in a couple years. Very deadly but only 10% of people who got the disease, died. Also in the 1970's it came back but barely did anything besides panic people.
That was of course back when medicine was barely advanced. In today's world, we can easily keep flu victims alive.
There's a couple reasons why it's making headlines now. 1. The media are starved for stories. (Writing about the economy gets boring) 2. The new strain of swine flu is undocumented and unexpected. We don't know how far this strain will mutate and we don't have a cure for it now. 3. It's spreading fairly fast and with today's transportation methods, can easily spread from country to country, no matter how many screenings they do.
Chances are very good the swine flu won't mutate into a pandemic ridden, apocalyptic wasteland (we can hope though). The CDC and the world's governments are only making a big deal out of Pig Flu is because it could theoretically be a very very big deal.
But hey, the Flu kills thousands of people a year and barely gets media coverage. Worry about that. |

It made me lol. That's basically the people that still think they need a bomb shelter. Stops digging anti-zombie-shelter and looks up from hole. Wait, what? You mean there's a group I could join that might help me build this damn thing? |

Yeah I warned him about it. @Lucio: <3 And I'm definitely not worried about the Swine Flu. Mainly because I rarely eat any ham/bacon/any pig material, and I also seem to have a high tolerance for these sicknesses. When the Avian Flu was out, I ate like 80 chickens every month, including ones on recall, and I never once got sick, while certain friends did. Also, as Konny said, we have the technology to stop it, and the only reason the people who died did, was probably because they couldn't afford health care, or it wasn't recognized as the swine flu. Pointless crisis is pointless. |

| Lucilla, Swine Flu isn't just spreadable by pork products. People who are sick spread the disease as well.
Regardless... Pointless crisis is VERY pointless.

| Actually, it's safe to eat pork products. It's live pigs you should stay away from. | |

| Bahaha
I've started showing symptoms of Swine Flu, though I still doubt I have it, as those symptoms are also symptoms for about 5 other things. |

| I drive to school 30 miles every day. I started coughing very roughly a few days ago, and my mom thinks I have cancer.
CO2 poisoning or something.
