| Well, it seems that my system contracted a Trojan.
A0000566.sys to be precise. It's a root-kit gen, whatever that is, lurks in System Volume Info, and infects your system restore files. It hid inside some malware or something and some how avoided detection by both Avast! and Iobit. Granted it was entirely my fault that it got by, my avast doesn't automatically start for some reason, and I forget to turn it on at times.
I went with a third party malware scanner suggested by my friend (could be the very thing that installed the virus to begin with,) and got rid of the malware, and thus Avast! found it.
Now I have the two infected files isolated, with one being deleted outright.
So I have a question guys. What do I do at this point?
My friend suggests I try a system restore to a few days to a week ago. I'm wondering if this thing infected all of my restore points, and I'm slightly worried that I will go too far back and delete fucking everything. On the same note, I've also read on how to completely purge the system restore files, but then I'll lose all restore points from 2004 til now, which means should I ever need to go back to the factory date, I'd be fucked.

| If you ever need to go back to factory date, then just move your info onto an external harddrive, wipe your harddrive, then reinstall. I'd go with purge. | |

I'd go with purge. I don't quite have an installation disk.

| Just do a hard boot, turn the power of by pulling the plug then when it comes back on, there should be a press any key for boot thing blinking, press it and restart, this will loose everything though.
But I had virus like that and because it was located in system32 I had to wipe mine, I did not risk backing anything up because every thing kept getting infected, really bad.

| Danger! On-Topic Post! Edit: I'm going to actually 'read' your post this time, and give you correct advice. First things first: back. up. now. Your system restore may be compromised, so if anything else goes bad, you lose damn near everything. Back up your personal files to CD! DO NOT use a USB Flash drive. It could be comprimised, where a CD has a much better chance of staying clean. Ok, that you virus scanner found something is great. check two things: 1, that your preferred virus scanner can still automatically update, and 2, that windows can automatically update. If you can't do one or either of these things, you've still got problems that can't resolve themselves. My personal recommendation is pick up Malwarebytes. It's free, and it has knocked out some of the toughest infections I've come up against. Run it, if malwarebytes doesn't find anything, we'll go from there. | |

| But cakes can fit strippers in them.
Cake > pie | |

| Ahh. The epic battle of cake vs. pie.
I present to you: a compromise.
Cheesecake is the union of not only cheese and cake, but using a pie crust.
If Mathematicians deal with pie (pi), and strippers deal with cakes, the only obvious conclusion we can have is that Mathematician Strippers pop out of cheesecake. And that is infinitely awesome.

| Not at all.
And, Pie is better?
Why?
because hot girls don't eat cake. They eat pie. If you give a girl a cake, she's offended, thinking you want her to pop out of it.
Give them pie? They'll love you and make sweet love to you.
Unless you're Nick. Then they prefer the cake.

| Well, I popped out of a cake for my now-girlfriend. I accidently scraped against the edge of the top getting out, and I came out with frosting covering my bra. It still worked out. The frosting was licked off. |
