| http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/05/manga-porn/This guy was arrested and jailed for 6 months for comics that the U.S considers "obscene". The comics in question contained Lolicon & Beastiality, however it's pretty damn obvious they're going after the guy for the Lolicon. Being the /b/tard that I am, I've seen my fair share of Lolicon, and while I don't particularly like it, I don't see the harm in it. What I do find offensive in the article above, is that the U.S DA is violating this man's rights and that it could easily happen to anyone else. If this guy doesn't accept their plea deal, he's likely to get 15 years in prison! That's seriously messed up! What do you guys think about this? I'm both disgusted and scared spitless. I'm disgusted by the sheer amount of hypocrisy and idiocy that's on display here. These people are part of the our governmental system, they're in charge of our safety and our well being for Christ's sake. The next thing will be Yaoi and Yuri. | |

| Child porn is child porn.
If it doesn't stop now, the whole internet is going to be nothing but porn in only a few years. /b/ is truly ruining the internet.
/b/ was funny when everything on /b/ stayed on /b/. Now that it has spread, its no longer funny and it is infection everything else. You may not notice it, but most of us make an unconscious reference to /b/ every once in awhile. |

| Pfft any time I reference /b/ I do so knowingly.
I hate to tell you this Jen. But pornography, including the illegal brand, has been around since the internet became available to the public, and long before 4chan or /b/ even existed. So to blame /b/ for the entirety of internet porn's history is not only untrue and unfair, but very stupid.
I agree that 4chan and /b/'s influence is not only strong across the internet, but in many ways that it's also negative. But to say that it's "ruining' the internet single-handedly is preposterous.
I agree that Child Pornography should be stopped, but I don't consider Lolicon to be CP. It's nothing more than ink on paper. No child was harmed in it's creation, and arresting someone on the premise that "it could happen" isn't strong enough justification. It'd be like arresting everyone who's thought of doing something that the law considers illegal. Lord knows I'd be in jail for the amount of times I thought about trying drugs or killing someone.
This guy wasn't some pedophile waiting in the wings, he was a comic collector. His collection consisted of multitudes of books of varying content matter and theme. He's committed no crimes prior to this, and had no actual child pornography within his possession, and yet they're going to to charge this guy with 15 years in prison if he's convicted and unless they offer him some sort of plea deal.
Under the Protect Act, cartoons, drawings, sculptures or paintings depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, and which lack “serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value are considered illegal. What does a group of dictators, judges, law students and practitioners consider scientifically, literary or artistically valuable? What credentials do these people have that make their judgment sound and accurate? I highly doubt that everyone who creates laws, has degrees in all of these fields and are quite capable of making such calls.
Whether Child Pornography is wrong or not isn't the issue. What is the issue is that these people are wasting time and resources, harassing a man that has done nothing wrong, has hurt no person living or non-living, past or present. When there are kids being hurt out there, that need help. Real people who are commuting such crimes and getting away with it.

| I don't like /b/ because its retarded. I don't think its ruining the internet, but there are some parts that need to stay on be.
Mainly the 'Your mother is a whore' thing. That's spreading around the forum for some reason.
The internet is a terrible place. It's easy to blame /b/, because its the current fad. What was the old thing to blame?
Wasn't Xanga blamed for porn awhile back? Myspace was threatened because it allowed porn on it.

| I've seen some pretty fucked-up stuff in my day. These newer whippersnappers that fell out of the uterus with a laptop have likely seen even worse.
As long as the actual pictures aren't posted, and the thread is serious in nature, stuff like this is perfectly tolerable on the forum.

| /b/ gets plagued with child porn whenever the mods aren't online.
/b/, and the rest of (well, 99% of it) 4chan is disgusting and as you said, taboo. But like mentioned prior, as long the pictures themselves aren't posted, this is perfectly fine. If you're a minor and you look where you aren't, that's not the person who has posted it's fault, or anyone's fault EXCEPT for the minor.
Besides, I'm pretty sure anyone 12 or older and has access to the internet, has seen some form of nudity, gore, profanity, etc in their experience.

I was like, nine. My younger cousin showed me a porn site called Dreamland.com
Nowadays, that site sells beds. Or at least it did.

| ahh /b/. Why must you always haunt me...
/b/ is one of those places on the internet where you can be absolutely horrible to people and not care. It's just part of the essence of the internet. Have you noticed that whenever anyone tells the internet that they can or cannot do something, all of a sudden, /b/ is doing it? CP is rightly illegalized, but tell /b/ that, and there will be 10 new threads in a second dedicated to nothing 'but' that. Finding a real pedophile on /b/ would be futile. They don't do it for that, they do it because they aren't supposed to.
Anon vs. Scientology didn't start because /b/ cares about people who get exploited. There was that insane video about Tom Cruise talking about scientology that leaked and was promptly banned. Scientology succeeded in supressing it for a while, and /b/ got interested. One idiot made the 'Anonymous vs. Scientology' video, and the internet exploded, and /b/ as the pure distilled hate of the internet died. Ever since then, they've been all about causes and shit.

| I didn't know there was porn on the internet until the fall of my 13th year. That was a good day.
On topic, there aint really a whole lot you can do to stop 4chan and /b/. And I don't think someone should be arrested for having drawings of kids, but I suppose it's for the same reason you get your parents called if you draw a dead guy in art class.
