An Old Friend

Cold black eyes staring
From the corner of the room.
Telling you to revert.
To change back again.

You turn away.
You attempt to avoid it.
Yet the voice still remains
And you, quietly weeping.

It cannot here your cries
They will make it stronger.
It will feed off them
Until you are nothing left.

So you linger there in bed
Quiet as you can be.
Pretending not to notice
Yet knowing it knows you do.

Life isn't easy after all
When you change who you are.
And boldly say the words:
You'll never change back.

That part of you remains
Lurking in the corner.
Hungry for those thoughts
You try so hard to forget.

How can one be so stupid
To say such a brave thing.
Knowing the task at hand
And giving in all together.

So now you’re stuck there
All alone in your bed.
Except for your old friend
That person you once were.
