The following is what each class ranks in, roughly.

Dark Knight = Uses polearms or spears, depending on the situation. polearms are better against mobs, but spears are better against single targets, due to certain skills you'll get in your third job.
10 - Be wanted in parties
9 - Survivability
7 - Growth speed
8 - Potential damage
5 - Ability to mob
9 - Ability to solo

Aran = Uses polearms
3 - Be wanted in parties
7 - Survivability
9 - Growth speed
10 - Potential damage
9 - Ability to mob
9 - Ability to solo

Dawn Warrior = Uses swords
2 - Be wanted in parties
7 - Survivability (Decreases against endgame bosses meant for Adventurers)
11 - Growth speed
7 - Potential damage
7 - Ability to mob (Decreases against endgame bosses and enemies meant for Adventurers)
8 - Ability to solo (Decreases against endgame bosses and enemies meant for Adventurers)

prolly gonna go Aran, the growth speed is a plus and the abilty to mob. though darknight has spears. Aran will prolly be my first for a tst run, then maybe if dont like em dark knight

I re-downloaded it. Join the Scania server, because that's where everyone is.

And it's uninstalled again. There was an event, some cake vs pie thing. I didn't get to participate. I was there, but I only got to stare at the 0:00 timer because it lagged so badly.

How the hell can trigger play this game when he cant even run DF?!?!?!

I started to try and play it at 10am today.
My whole computer had a heart attack
had to system restore and delete files including maplestory till noon.
redownloaded & installed
worked this time without killing my computer.
Tried to play at 1:30pm.
took 15 minutes to start the game
ran poorly
downloaded new graphic drive to try and play
failed again
gave up
tried again 4 more times from 3:00pm-5pm (now)

And for all my effort and wasted day here's what i accomplished on the game.

I made a character in galacia cause it said it was the nub place.
I learned to walk right and jump
talked to the first NPC
told me to talk to another
She told me it was a good day to do laundry
Some Black Guy in a Tux tried to tell me something
Game crashed
came here to rant

Maplestory utterly and completely failed me...

...ideas?

Uninstall it. Keep it uninstalled. Never speak of it again.


If you liked the general feel of Maplestory, try La Tale. It doesn't fail as much.

Haw! Three things.

One - My problem with DF is that somewhere along the line, Satan orgasmed all over my Flash file, screwing it all to pus-spewing hell.

Two - If anything, make a character on Scania. That's where I am.

Three - For some reason, Maplestory will try its best to thwart you at first with frequent crashing and slow loading. But it will eventually stop giving you trouble. I consider it an initial test of willpower for all new players.

When I played La Tale, it never lagged for me. La Tale characters look more like teenagers than maplestory children, but the idiotic smileys are still there. Except they are random rare drops.

You're able to spend money on it, but it is only for show. You will not need to buy armor, you can easily get a full set by grinding in a spot.

Maplestory never lags for me, except when I'm in Orbis, but that's because my internet connection sucks balls.

Maplestory is supposed to be chibi. Some people like chibi.

Maplestory armor is even easier to get. You can get them from NPC shops, until you get to level 50 gear, (Which 95% of MS players will never do. I've only gotten to level 52.) After level 50, you can hunt monsters for them, or buy them from other players.

You're able to spend money on Maplestory as well, in the form of NX cash. You can use it as currency for trading with other plays, like the credits in DF. However, their primary use is for the cash shop, where you can buy name changes, server changes, hair styles, hair colors, face styles, eye colors, and skin colors not selectable at character creation. You can also buy stat and skill point resets if you horribly fail up your character.

Luckily, none of the NX-cash-only items give you an advantage over other players, though you can buy temporary exp and loot increases.

Well Kyo, I went through all the trouble of getting you to download MS, but then I was inconsiderate, and never even played it with you.

Therefore, I propose we have ourselves a "last hurrah" of sorts tomorrow (Sunday, which is technically today. Damn insomnia), which is the last day I don't have to work before you head off to boot camp. I have just the perfect little adventure plotted out for us.

I'll bring my favorite character, the one who's class will likely never be replaced by a better version. As such, you don't have to worry about dying. ;)

Anyone else is welcome to come too, though I don't foresee there being any takers.
