Athens Mental Health Center Sign-Up

I would like to begin a game which takes place in modern times in an insane asylum called Athens Mental Health Center. There are two paths which the players must opt to take:

1. They may chose to be an inpatient which has arrived at Athens and develop their own stories as they explore their inner psyche, as well as the hidden phantasmagoric secrets the ancient institute holds.
2. They may choose to be part of the staff and interact with the patients, other staff members and at the same time attempt to unravel the history of Athens.

This game will be intensely psychological. I would encourage the players to interact extensively not only with the other characters, but with themselves as well- it would be interesting to see a profound psychology emerge from each of the individual players.

The players themselves are not the only points of interest. Athens itself has a unique history which the residents will soon discover through the intense dreams they suffer as well as the bizarre waking visions. Is it insanity, or has Athens a life of its own?

Places of interest in Athens where the players may explore, be it in person or through dreamscape:

1. The Main Institute: the institute is in the middle of a large forest in the northern portion of the United States, three hours from the nearest town. The entirety of the staff lives in Athens. The building is mid-Victorian in architecture, an old yet beautiful and impressive isolated house. There are several long and winding corridors, tall dirty narrow windows, and beautiful gray stone floors.

2. The Mortuary: And old mortuary (possessed of some modern conveniences) with several small crematoriums along the back wall.

3. The Library: A large library very close to where the staff of Athens lives. The room has tall walls with two stories of old books, beautifully bound, mostly rare and unusual historical, mystical, psychological and philosophical texts. There are several large red plush Victorian style chairs for friends to gather around and discuss their day’s readings.

4. The Green House: At the back of the establishment is a vast greenhouse or atrium, filled with all manner of odd plant life both poisonous and beautiful. The plants all seem to thrive despite the weak and dim light which trickles through the dark glass.

5. The Cemetery: Behind the asylum lies a small and beautiful cemetery, not all the graves are marked. Perhaps in this serene place, what with the strange names on the tombstones some dating all the way back into the mid 1800’s, the mysteries of Athens may begin to be unraveled.

6. The Woods: Surrounding Athens is a thick and lush forest with ancient Oaks and beautiful brooks. Despite its attractive beauty however, few venture into its depths for so many of the dreams begin here, with that unknown presence which always seems to be very close to the dreamer. Another interesting feature of Athens is the large flock of crows that surrounds it and often reacts to some disturbance in the surrounding woods. One in particular is missing an eye, and always seems to be about.

7. The Lake: Just behind the institute is a magnificent lake with impossibly black waters. Is this the source of the fog that nightly comes rolling in, filling the woods with this seemingly preternatural mist?

Why is the character at Athens?: John never tells anyone his past, because for the most part he can't remember it. He doesn't know who his parents are, if he has any family, or where he lived.

He just woke up one day on a park bench, his fingers red and raw, and a backpack on his back. He took his name from a character from Dracula, which he had stashed in his bag. Several days later, he found out he was responsible for the brutal strangling and murder of an eighteen year old girl.

A month later, he blacked out and found himself lying next to a young girls corpse, aged sixteen to nineteen. He ran, only to black out and find himself somewhere in Minnesota. He studied Psychology to figure out what was wrong with him, but his search continues.

Why is the character at Athens: Spiridon spent his first 20 years becoming a doctor. Throughout his young life he was the top of every single class often outsmarting and correcting anyone who had been trying to teach him and showed great promise. At 20 he began his first job as a doctor at a small hospital in a small town in the east of russia. For 6 months he worked there before moving to work at the European Medical Centre in Moscow. He worked there for 22 months before mysteriously vanishing along with two other doctors. The two doctors were found a month later along with the corpses of 7 other people the 9 of which the youngest where the two doctors and the oldest stretching back to 4 months ago all of which (save for the two doctors who no-one could find any reason for their deaths) had been experimented upon some multiple times. However they were never able to find Dr. Spiridon to question about the incidents.

After being a doctor for just 2 years something had changed within Czernobog. Over the course of the next 21 years Spiridon has worked in another 4 different hospitals and a care home. At every single one people have mysteriously vanished over time and when Czernobog disappears so do one or two others at the exact same time only for everyone to be found at a later date...or never again. Death seems to follow this man as he moves from country to country and now he has come to Athens.

This is the first time that Spiridon has worked in a mental hospital and he is overjoyed. a building of people who no-one believes, who no-one cares about...who no-one will miss...

Why is the character at Athens?:
Shanon is Athens' only repeat patient, and the sole blight on their otherwise flawless record. Having heard a number of voices in his head since he was old enough to form memories, everyone always knew that Shanon was meant for something beyond normality. Though his parents did their best to ignore him whenever he talked to himself, they found themselves unable to turn a blind eye when he began committing atrocious acts in the name of... well, whatever it was that talked to him in a voice that nobody else could hear.

And so, Shanon was shipped off to Athens, following a rather unfortunate incident in which he was discovered running over a number of cats (Which had been buried up to their necks in the yard) with a lawnmower. He was 11 years old.

From the second he first entered the facility, Shanon appeared to be fully normal. He was polite, intelligent, and most important of all, showed no signs of insanity. The infamous voices the doctors had been warned about never showed up. After an utterly uneventful year, Shanon was sent back home, his sanity fully vouched for. Shanon's act had been flawless.

Two weeks later, the bodies of Shanon's parents and the family dog were found unceremoniously crammed into a porta-potty, which someone had tried to light on fire before having to make an unexpected getaway. Between the three of them, ninety-six stab wounds were recorded. Though the perpetrator was not caught on that night, the finger was eventually pointed at Shanon (mostly due to his fingerprints being on the murder weapon, which was still stabbed into the mother's eyeball.) He was 12 years old.

After a surprisingly short series of legal proceedings, Shanon once again found himself in Athens. He's been there ever since.

Knowing full well that he won't be getting out again on good behavior, Shanon has ceased trying to hide his true self. He makes no attempt to hide that fact that he talks to himself, and he displays his psychopathic and narcissistic tendencies on a regular basis. He's attacked other patients both physically and sexually, which has landed him in the maximum-security ward.

No, Shanon has little hopes of ever being released again. He merely waits patiently, biding his time until an opportunity to escape presents itself.

Why is the character at Athens?:
Leah is an unusual case at Athens. Very rarely do children her age get sent to Athens. The determining factor of her deportation were the very extreme circumstances of the L.S. trial case.

Leah Smith was born to a Mr. John and Cindy Smith. She was their first and only child. The Smiths were considered a very average couple. Neighbors called them quiet, polite, peaceful people. No one ever expected what happened to them.

October 17th: Next door neighbor Betty Hazlett notices three days worth of morning newspapers on the Smiths' front porch. She also notices that the Smith's two cars have been parked outside, undriven for 4 days now. She informs the local authorities.

October 18th: After repeatedly trying to contact the family, uniformed police officers get a warrant to search the house. After cutting the lock off the door, the officers enter the house and are immediately blasted with the stench of rotting flesh and decaying food. Quickly making their way to the kitchen, officers find two bodies. Due to extreme levels of mutilation and rot, police had to send samples of the bodies to be identified in a lab. They were revealed to be Mr. John and Cindy Smith. Their bodies had been ripped limb from limb, stabbed hundreds of times, mutilated and eviscerated. The murder weapons appeared to be stainless steel knifes and forks, as well as kitchen knives, a hammer, three screwdrivers, an electrical cord, sharp broken glass and metal piping.

Police immediately began looking for Leah. After an extensive search of the house, Chief Officer Greg Hardell hears a small noise behind the refrigerator next to the crime scene. Moving the fridge revealed a small crawl space. Curled up in the fetal position, bloodstained, malnourished, and unresponsive was ten year old Leah Smith.

Leah was immediately taken to a hospital where she was given intravenous fluids.

October 21st: A nurse by the name of Susan Meeds first notices that Leah has woke up from her coma in the hospital. Susan is quoted by saying that Leah sat completely upright in bed, her eyes "as wide as saucer plates," stuck staring at the wall of the urgent care room. Many doctors and nurses try to talk to her. Leah remains unresponsive to any form of interaction.

October 22nd: Child Psychologist Andi Howell is assigned to the murder case, now being called the L.S. trial. Ms. Howell meets with Leah in the hospital. Besides eating and drinking, Leah gives no notice to any human being. Ms. Howell performs a series of sophisticated psychological evaluations on Leah Smith.

October 24th: Investigative police in the L.S. case begin finding a number of inconsistencies with the murder. After much investigation they determined that nothing was stolen from the house. No signs of forced entry were found. No trace of prints or DNA was found that didn't belong to the Smiths. Most shocking of all, every murder weapon had the prints of Leah Smith on them.

October 28th: Leah speaks for the first time since the incident during a psychological evaluation session. Andi Howell records it on tape. Here is the following exchange.
"Leah, can you point to the color you like the most?"
"..."
"I really love pink. Don't you love pink, Leah? I think it's a pretty color."
"..."
"Do you want to point to any color, Leah?"
"...(undecipherable whisper)..."
"Leah? Did you try to say something Leah? Did you try to say a color? Please talk again for me Leah."
"...she's coming back..."
"Leah? Who's coming back? Who is she, Leah? Leah can you please tell me more?"

No more conversations was recorded that session. Leah begins using simple words such as 'drink, food, potty, yes, and no'.

October 30th: Andi Howell completes her evaluation of the psychological condition of Leah Smith. In the report, she describes Leah displaying habits and abilities of someone who is highly autistic. However, brain scans reveal no noticeable problem. Severe emotional and psychological damage were blamed for her condition, despite any physical damage. Due to her extreme trauma, investigators were not allowed to question Leah in the trial of her parents' murder.

November 2nd: Leah is legally released from the hospital and taken to the home of her godparents, Hank and Marisa Sheldon. She meets with Andi Howell everyday.

November 6th: Ms. Howell reports Leah as improving but only conditionally. Leah's interactions with other people still remains almost null. Her godparents site no problems with Leah, despite her antisocial tendencies.

November 7th: Firefighters respond to a residential fire at the house of Hank and Marisa Sheldon. Firefighters manage to rescue Leah Smith who is unconscious. She is taken to the hospital where she becomes stable. After putting out the fire, firefighters and investigators find the charred remains of Hank and Marissa Smith in the living room. They had both been brutally bludgeoned, stabbed, and choked, The fire was also found to be arson, started from the inside of the house. No evidence was found of anyone entering the house. The murder weapons were an odd collection of household materials, very reminiscent of the Smith murders. Leah's DNA was found on all of them.

November 8th: Leah wakes up in the hospital, in the same condition she was in. Andi Howell performs more psychological evaluations.

November 9th: Due to outstanding evidence, special police investigators are given permission to question Leah. After 2 hours of trying to get Leah to talk about the night of the Smith murders or the Sheldon murders, Leah says one word.
"Burn."

She doesn't talk again during the interview.

November 12th: Andi Howell completes her psychological evaluation with the same result as the last test.

November 13th: With no living relatives or godparents, Leah is sent to the only place able to house and treat her extreme circumstances.

November 14th: Athens Mental Health Center receives its' newest patient.

November 16th: Andi Howell is found dead in her apartment of an apparent suicide by hanging.

November 17th: The L.S. case officially closes. No clear explanation for the events on October 18th or November 7th were ever uncovered.

Why is the character at Athens?: Jeff is a the top of his field he began working at a very large and prestigious hospital and he hated it. It was full of corrupt doctors that only became doctors to make a lot of money. Jeff became a doctor in order to help people. He began to search for another hospital when Athens peaked his interest. It was a hospital with people that needed a lot of help and soon Jeff was transferred. Jeff loves to work in the new hospital with some of the most extreme cases he had ever seen.

No its going to start.. We have 6 people in all so far. I demanded a 7th. When that 7th arrives and posts their profile I will post mine.. a day or two after that then the games will begin!

Oh good so theres no chance it will start today...I have a killer headache from last night somehow...only drank 3 fucking lagers didn't even get slightly tipsy and yet my head still fucking kills...now I want a 7th this will be my first UC roleplay...so i'll probably fuck up and die about five seconds in.

Why is the character at Athens?:He was giving several choices for the basis for his historical piece, from the local court house, the sheriff station to the best pizza place in town.

He gave them all due thought, and was leaning towards the court house when a video was sent to him in the mail. Slightly surprised at the VHS tape, he managed to dig up a VCR and play it.

The tape was a video advertising the Athens Mental Health Center, and how it was the best place to send family members in the need of help. It went over the history of the place and all the medical procedures that where pioneered there.

During segments of the video, he must have blacked out because the video seemed to skip around at random parts. Looking at clock after the video had ended, he saw that five hours had passed, but writing on the tape said it ran for only sixty six minutes.

Watching the tape again with his boss and coworkers, it only ran for sixty six minutes and when he tried to explain what happened, they thought he must have been drunk when he first watched.

He knew he was not, in fact, he recalled that this had happened to his father, and supposedly his father before him. So he requested from both his boss and someone at Athens if he could stay there and do the historical piece. He is on the way there now.

Why your Character is at Athens: Will just couldn't seem to get a break. He did crappy during high school, and eventually just dropped outta College. After mooching off of every friend he had, Will eventually realized he had to get a job. So, he applied everywhere, and was denied everywhere, except for the local loony bin. So, Will swallowed his pride, took the job, and has been here for almost two years.

Ahh lovely now theres a worker who won't be missed as well mwuhahahaha.

I saw a lovely couple passing by on my way to get some shit paper from the local grocery store. The lady was a bit too tall but she still gave me a nice turn on. I knew I had to have her. After fallowing them to their apartment and looking around a bit I knew this would be too easy..

Date: Same as last entry dammit!

So I just got back from the couples apartment.. We had such a good time. First off I tied down the dude and stuck him in the corner and stared down his lady friend. Before she could be mine she needed work however.. I needed to perfect her… I “took a few inches” off her arms and legs and then sowed her back up. She didn’t survive the process but at least she looked A LOT better than she did before. She looked far better than that last girl I was with who was beyond repair (I had to decapitate her entirely before I could “get it up” hehe…) The funny thing was her boy pal didn’t seem to like me cutting on her so much and yelled at me the whole time.. Of course.. now that I think of it he could have just been yelling cause I chopped off his baby cannon and shoved it in his mouth before taping it.. Good times… BACK ON TOPIC! So after fixing her up she repaid me with hot sex. (I wish she would have made more noises but I guess that’s hard to do when your dead.. oh well..). The man FINALLY stopped screaming (after I cut his voice producer) thank God for that.. But yeh! Tonight was amazing…

I apologize but I'm deleting my previous character and using this new character. (who goes by the same name). After posting and starting the RP I couldn't help but feel I had rushed myself when creating my first character and he wasn't truly insane enough..
