| Remember that unpleasant blood-donating experience I made a thread about a while back? Well, they sent me a card with my blood information, which arrived today. Coincidentally, it has my blood type on it, which I had never known until I got the card.
My blood is B+, the third most common type, which accounts for 8.5% of US citizens. I can have O-,O+,B-, or B+ blood run through me in the event of a blood transfusion, but anything else will kill me. ^_^
According to the Japanese blood type theory of personality, I am active, a doer, selfish, irresponsible, and wild.
What's YOUR blood type?

| I'm A+! That's A positive. Yay happy blood! It's also the best grade you can get in an American school!
So I have happy, smart blood with a positive outlook on life.
You're going to have to tell me scientifically what A+ means, as I can't seem to find a wiki about it. Am I the most popular blood in the world? What blood can I get? WOULD I BE ABLE TO RECIEVE YOUR BLOOD IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY, TRIGGER??

Nay! The second most popular! Yours is the second most common blood, which accounts for 35.7% of the US population! It's a somewhat desirable blood type. Although it can only be given to those with A+ or AB+ blood, those two types combined account for 40% of the US. (My blood can only be given to 11% of the population. It's very selfish.) - Quote :

You can receive O-. O+, A-, or A+ blood. - Quote :

Naw! You would has death! D: By the way, the Japanese blood type theory of personality states that you are creative, over-earnest, fastidious, and sensible! |

| There is no blue blood, if thats what you mean, the color is just produced by the light through your skin in veins.
Now my gold blood, thats another thing.

I certainly am creative and sensible, in that I make sensible decisions. But I'm not even slightly earnest, and I'm nowhere near fastidious. The Japanese got it half right. Idiots... So what's the most common blood type? O+?
| | | Guest Guest
| Subject: Re: Blood Types Wed Jun 03, 2009 10:32 pm | |
| O+ = 37.4% of US citizens A+ = 35.7% of US citizens B+ = 8.5% of US citizens O- = 6.6% of US citizens A- = 6.3% of US citizens AB+ = 3.4% of US citizens B- = 1.5% of US citizens AB- = 0.6% of US citizens
O- is the worst to have, because any other bloodtype will kill you, but it's the most valuable, because anyone can have O- run through them.
AB+ is the best to have, because you can have any blood type run through you. But it is the least valuable, because it will kill anyone who isn't AB+. |

Now my gold blood, thats another thing. Blood IS actually blue until it gets out of your veins, where it meets oxygen and becomes red. Dunno why exactly blue goes to red, but it just happens.

| Its never actually blue, its just the light passing through the skin making it look blue, and also there's o2 already in blood so it would be red.
Blood goes from the color of a dull red when it has no o2 and maybe some co2, and turns scarlet when it has o2.

Blood is a very particular thing. When it runs through the veins, it is blue because it is not oxygenated. After it leaves the lungs and is pumped through the body, through arteries, it is red. This is true for all veins except the Pulmonary Artery is blue and the Pulminary Vein is red, opposite of normal.

| Hemoglobin is the principal determinant of the color of blood in vertebrates. Each molecule has four heme groups, and their interaction with various molecules alters the exact color. In vertebrates and other hemoglobin-using creatures, arterial blood and capillary blood are bright-red, as oxygen imparts a strong red color to the heme group. Deoxygenated blood is a darker shade of red; this is present in veins, and can be seen during blood donation and when venous blood samples are taken. Blood in carbon monoxide poisoning is bright-red, because carbon monoxide causes the formation of carboxyhemoglobin. In cyanide poisoning, the body cannot utilize oxygen, so the venous blood remains oxygenated, increasing the redness. While hemoglobin-containing blood is never blue, there are several conditions and diseases wherein the color of the heme groups make the skin appear blue. If the heme is oxidized, methaemoglobin, which is more brownish and cannot transport oxygen, is formed. In the rare condition sulfhemoglobinemia, arterial hemoglobin is partially oxygenated, and appears dark-red with a bluish hue (cyanosis).
Veins in the skin appear blue for a variety of reasons only weakly dependent on the color of the blood. Light scattering in the skin, and the visual processing of color play roles as well.
